Heh, that's easy if you're familiar with AK internals and can see a difference between 2 and 3 But let the rest guess

Not a prototype, some of such intermediate AK-74/AKS-74 were produced in short period of time when Izhmash were still producing AKM and started mass production of AK-74/AKS-74. But they are really rare and were produced till only 1976 AFAIK. If you got that one in your collection - you're extremely lucky.

Correct. The fourth one is early AKS-74, with AKM-styled gas chamber and pistol grip. I've chosen AKS, AKS-74 and AK-101 and placed them next to each other to let people see one interesting thing - you can easily identify AK caliber simply by looking at AK magazine rounding radius. So you'll never confuse AK-74M with AK-103 or AK-101 if you know where to look at.

You've identified 2 of them are correctly, but the rest 3 are different models.

Well, your thread was intended to give better understanding of entire AK family tree and our native AK naming scheme to foreign readers. So what about some graphics puzzles now, something like "identify AK model" to see if our original Russian AK naming got more clear for readers now? Something like that:

I don't need extra keys, I've already purchased 4 copies of the game for me and my best friends But I do need interesting AK related puzzles, so keep generating them

Tiss. The rest are PP (SMG) and use pistol ammo.

Hehe, thanks But what kind of misconception was it related?

Damn, me = blind. Totally missed RPKS-74N from the list. It is caliber, 9mm for AK-9 and 5.45 for RPKS-74N. Damn.

Nah, I give up It’s not an action or bolt locking system, all of them are gas operated and use traditional AK’s rotating bolt lock. It is not a rate of fire, all of them besides semi-automatic SVK have something close to typical AK’s rate and to know exact value you have to Google (which is not the case as you mentioned). It is not an effective fire range (it could be it for AKMSU and AK-9, but I already named that couple above due to their short barrel length and you mentioned that nobody even guessed correct couple yet). It is not a caliber, cartridge; it is not a feed system. It is not a muzzle velocity, only AK-9 is slightly different from the rest due to subsonic ammo. So unless I miss something obvious I’m completely out of ideas But it was extremely entertaining to try to guess, thanks a lot!

No googling, our weapon history is my passionate hobby and I'm AK collector so it is interesting puzzle to solve.

Evil you, I could be developing MSI Afterburner instead One more try before going to have a lunch: not sure if you could mean manufacturer plant as gun characteristic, but only AEK-999 (Kovrov) and RPK-203 (Vyatskie Polyany) from all listed guns are not manufactured in Izhevsk (Izhmash).

Hehe. A few more versions: - Just RPK-203 and AEK-999 have integrated bipods - Just AK-15 and AK-109 have bayonet and grenade launcher mount connectors But it is not related to some misconception, which you've mentioned, so it is definitively something different.

Probably AKMSU, AK-9. The only ones with short barrel in the list.
