Pray to RNGeesus -- Feedback on tasks

Hey, so I just wanted to offer my own feedback on tasks in this game. This is my own personal opinion... maybe others share it or maybe they don't :)

Anyway, the concept of tasks in EFT is generally fun. I like that I have goals to work towards that aren't just "raid, kill, loot, survive". However, as a goal oriented person, some of the tasks I'm finding rather infuriating as they are entirely based on luck. I suspect you folks know what I'm talking about... the dreaded "find in raid" tasks. Let me try to relate my experiences as a relatively new player for two tasks I've been working on lately...

1. Delivery from the past -- For a player who doesn't have the best gear, the best aim, nor the best understanding of all of the maps, this is a great task. It gives me a very clear goal to find an item in one map, extract with it, then place it in a place on another map. I've spent a lot of time working towards this one, first gaining an understanding of Customs and how to find the item in the first place, then how to play and extract. Next I've been spending my time working on learning Factory so I can work towards finally completing this quest. The objectives are clear and I am the only person in charge of my destiny (so to speak) for this task.

2. Sanitary Standards, p. 1 -- This task requires you to find, in raid, a gas analyzer. At first I just expected to find this in random places as I looted. After a week went by without ever seeing it, I started to ask questions. My friend said he often finds them in car trunks on customs, so I started checking those. Nothing. I did some googling online and found a run in interchange, taking you through Oli up to the tech shop, so I did that for a while. Nothing. After several weeks I just happened to be looting Power Grid on Interchange with a friend and he found one in a filing cabinet so he let me loot it. This was not a very fun experience for me because it entirely boiled down to pure luck as to whether or not I would find the item in any of the places I looked.

So the quests that follow in line for the first one are very fun to me, and I think it may be good to see more of these. We already have lots of quests like this, such as the kill scavs, or kill scavs with a certain weapon. The gunsmith ones are also quite interesting as they teach you about modding weapons. The ones that follow the first one, typically the "find in raid" style of quests, aren't very enjoyable at all and feel like there's nothing I can really do except loot the common locations and hope.

Anyway, there's my feedback, hope it helps :)

The task we have are more looked like "Achievements" from developer point of view.

The main tasks are not in the game yet sadly. Should have been in 0.12 patch but well - didn't happen.

Yes and i do agree - lots of tasks are pure RNG. I remember i used to spend tons of runs to get flashdrives on purpose but one of my friends go the quests done in 2 raids where it took me 20-30 raids.

I think achievement tasks are perfectly fine... they make me think of the Feats of Strength that World of Warcraft has. If you have one, you did something kinda cool and it took a lot of effort.

A key difference though is that they aren't really important for progression, whereas a lot of these tasks are. You need them to progress not only your PMC's level, but also to increase your rep with traders or to unlock certain items for trade. Having these kinds of things behind a task that is more of an achievement doesn't really feel good, I think.

Hopefully the devs consider this :)
