Once the timer runs down, you will get an "Item not sold" message in your inbox with no item attached. I haven't been able to confirm whether or not you lose Flea Market rep when this happens. Yesterday I had 3 items stuck and closing and reopening cleared 2 of the 3. The stubborn one that wouldn't clear resulted in the unsold item message I mentioned above.
