How did he know?

I was interrupted by real life nuisances during a raid, so I hid my PMC into a remote bush. When I returned some 20 minutes later, my character was still alive, and I've prepared to go about the business. Right then I heard footsteps so I remained hidden. There was a single PMC coming towards me. He started moving around the bushes and rocks in the vicinity, firing random shots into the air and into the bushes. He even threw 2 grenades in my general direction, but both missed me (they flew off the map, since I was on the border). It was obvious he knew I was there and he was trying to provoke me into a fight. He just couldn't see me, or narrow down my position to a single bush! After about 5 minutes of trying he finally gave up and disappeared. And no, he wasn't fighting anybody else, he was alone.

How on Earth did he know I was there?

Probably a radar hack. If you didn't move and make noise I don't see any other way. He obviously couldn't see you or you would have been dead.

Oh, that sounds quite discouraging - there are such "hacks"?!

And yes, I didn't make any moves or make any sound. Is the sound generated also if you are completely motionless in the bushes (due to branches movement in the wind)?

You make some noise if you open/close your inventory or look through the gunsights.

No, did nothing, only waited. I'm afraid this is starting to make me believe these hacks some people talk about are real.

Could be, but kinda strange that this guy was running around throwing nades everywhere as you say. I personnaly got killed by a hacker while hiding in bushes the other day, but it was simply one tap to my head throughout multilple bushes from M4 followed by killscreen with chinese gibberish as nickname. Other possiblity is bushes bug out sometimes and starts to rustle by themselves even if you just lying down and not doing anything.

Sometimes in the wind the bush will make noise even if you don’t move as it brushes against you but it’s rare. 
 

also you said you just got back, you sure you didn’t move your mouse a little bit or anything? Even just a quick move could be heard with comtacs if he was nearby. 
 

I wonder how many bushwookies think I’m a hacker when I pop them in the face when they     are camping and I have a thermal.
