Make Tarkov more skill based rather than stat/armor based.

Hi,

Let me just start by saying that the game is already amazing and it's wonderfull that a indie company found it's niche and grew to what it is now. Tarkov is really fantastic and I can't wait till full release!

Now... What I mean in the title.
Tarkov is advertised as hardcore FPS. Long time fans will tell new players to "git gud" when they point out rough edges of the game. But here lays the problem.
Getting good doesn't change a lot.
It's my first wipe and I've reached a point money wise that I can buy expensive armor and ammo, I leveled traders and done bunch of (tedious) quests.
The first thing that came into my mind when I do raids now is the fact that... I no longer need the same set of skills I needed before reaching stable income/flea market etc.

Let me give you an example.
You can watch the no1 Tarkov streamer Pestily doing his (in)famous Factory runs when he's clearing an entire map. Watch it again.
Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ITxwa7cOhM
He goes out with high lvl armor, faceshield and... He doesn't really peak, he doesnt crouch, he doesn't do SOOO many things that "chads" of Tarkov are telling new players to ALWAYS do.
At one point he goes right into the open and... He gets shot. Multiple times. In the head, torso, legs etc. In a casual, "kids friendly" game like CoD he would be shredded.
There is no skill, no amazing tactic involved, no secret sauce. It's just high level armor and expensive bullets.

IMO the reason why so many players avoid Dorms, Reserve in general, Interchange as PMC is the fact that the game resolves around money and what you can buy with it rather than how good are you with your mouse + keyboard skills.

Like I said. The game is fantastic but if it's hardcore element will keep on being build around gear than it wont be any different than a looter shooter like Division.
So maybe instead of adding another layers upon layers of content take a step back and a looong look at what the game is slowly becoming.

P.S.
OBVIOUSLY Pestily is highly skill player so my rant is in no way aimed at his skills. But it still makes me wonder - If even a highly skilled player like him thinks the best tactic is to just go full on tank and eat the bullets with his armor then that just proves my point.

He is mostly fighting AI during a Raider event... and most Raiders use bad ammo...
If he encountered a PMC with good ammo or a Raider with good ammo he would be dead.

Also as a new player go put on meta gear and see how many PMCs you can kill before you die...

Great post.  It is very nice to see that even a new player like you can "get it."  Between the ridiculous movement mechanics, the magical stims and healing potions, the arms of damage blocking, the armor of impenetrableness that protects the entire torso, nerfing big huge bullets so they do not kill people, the inhuman ability to aim under any conditions, etc etc etc Tarkov has not been hardcore for quite a while and it is only getting less so with each passing patch.

Don't get me wrong, if you did not tell me ANYTHING about Tarkov, other than it is a FPS and I tried it back in 2017 and I tried it now, I would find the current version MUCH more fun.  It would be a great CoD/Battlefield/Fortnite/Overwatch crossover.  The gameplay mechanics of Fortnite and Overwatch combined with the realistic graphics of CoD/Battlefield.  Stack on top of that the best weapon modding of any game and BAM you got a hit.

But looking back at what the game is advertised as, and what I was sold, it has crashed and burned.

Wut? This game is 100% skill based. Armor means nothing because 1 shot to the head and you are dead, and its called skill to shoot someone to the head. You can wear 150k helmet and get 1 shot to the head and die. with good ammunition it's only 2 to 3 shots to the chest to kill you. I love to run with pistol only and kill chads with 2 milion set on them by 1 tapping them in the head, because they do not have face shield. You have play by yourself to understand that

Check guy called LVNDMARK and you will understand what skill means

100% agree but will also say armor isn't "finished" right now and it's planned for visually exposed parts of the body to not be covered by armor which may fix all the problems it has right now.

For example things might fix itself when vests like slick armor only protect the bare chest and back but leave your nape and sides 100% exposed to be decimated by pure damage and people start using "weaker" armor since it protects "more" of your critical zones, which will in turn make lower penetrating but high damage rounds and shotguns more viable by allowing them to ignore armor with good positioning/aim while also incentivizing even heavily armored players to keep themselves in cover since dying in 2 shots even from scavs becomes a realistic possibility again.

Here is my take:

Netcode must be fixed before armor plate added. If problems with armor apparently being ignored are issue now, then imagine later.

Moreover, I agree. Even mighty 96034 super armor cannot protect you from getting stomach blacked with shotgun blast. But also problem is how armor penetration operates. Right now, many small calibers punch above weight like A1 EPR and M61. .45 AP is also issue. Meanwhile heavy caliber specifically armor piercing rifles like ASh-12 intended to slice up plate... works exactly the smae if not worse? What?

In summation:

1st netcode.

2nd ammo rebal and armor realism

3rd specialist plates and ammo

it's just not true :) in every single game in the world having experience and knowledge makes you able to win against better equipped opponent but it doesn't mean the game is skill based. In EFT you have passive skills that let you e.g. run longer, have less recoil, be quieter etc. and armor vests in EFT are extremely overpowered in comparison  to real life (as well as faceshields which in real life are aimed more in protecting against shrapnels then direct hits). Leg meta isn't there by an accident ;) . Sure, being skilled helps a lot but EFT is pretty far from being skill based. I'd say that shooting skills in EFT are even less important than map knowledge.
