JerryLove
In a recent (locked) thread, a mod said this Quote BSG do not profit from people cheating, this is pure nonsense. Now to be clear: I'm not accusing BSG of turning a blind eye or deliberately looking to encourage cheating or anything of the kind... I have no knowledge that would back that. But are cheaters a source of *profit* for the company? Is the idea that they might be complete nonsense. Off the bat, anyone cheating purchased the game... so clearly there was profit... but that's not directly related to the cheat, so let's move on. Let's imagine there's a gold miner out there. Of course he cheats to mine more gold to sell. BSG catches the cheat and shuts off the license. The gold miner buys a new license and continues. Wash, rinse, repeat. Even if BSG is in good faith making every effort to truly block cheaters from being in game, even if done with no goal towards making money; BSG does actually profit in the form of repeat sales of the game to the same person... even if they are trying to not do that (via IP and hardware bans and the like). How about we avoid misinformation? Edited March 11, 2021 by JerryLove
Shortstacker
BSG profits from cheating the same way any other dev profits from cheaters. Why are they treated differently? There are cheaters in nearly every single gaming genre, competitive FPS’s possibly being the most popular.
Moriibund
To be honest, and BSG already know this, what sets them higher on the bar is RMT-ing... Cheaters in other competitive FPS games is not as prevalent because it is not done for profit, only for personal satisfaction. Also, BSG is not treated different, no one enjoys losing to a cheater, and all devs are expected to do what they can to prevent that. To answer the original question, of course they profit, I think the mods statement was a statement of intention, they don't profit intentionally. Although I would also point to the bulk sales they do... who is buying 100 EFT keys? and are they tracking payment details of cheaters? Do they accept anonymous payments from say pre-paid cc's? are they really doing everything they can? Cheating in tarkov is big money, you think people are making bank cheating in APEX? I doubt it.
