Playing SCAV, killed by SCAV?

I was doing a SCAV run on customs and got over to the dorms. AI SCAVS were everywhere and ignoring me (I'd not fired a single shot the whole run). 

Suddenly, one of the SCAVs shoots me with a shotgun, killing me. 

I assumed it was a player-SCAV that had ID'd that I was one too, but there's no "report cheating" button, so I have to believe it's an AI SCAV. 

Thought those weren't supposed to go hostile unless you did.

Did you get shot at the underpass and the gas station? And did you have a bolt action with scope on it?

I don't recall on that particular run if it was one of the scoped SVSs or not. I don't think that was the run where I was shot at at gas-station. I definately didn't go under overpass (as I've not done that all night, the closest I've gotten was the other side of the gate just north of it). 

It was 2-story. I was outside the "front" entrance (the one with the reception desk). The scav that shot me was in the hall standing next to another scav. 

 

I recall I had a backpack with a toolkit and power supply in it. Was actually a little sad to lose that.

Sadly its the way it is right now. Its actually always been that way since 12. something. 

Hopfully scav karma changes that... but the people that rock Meta gear dont do scav run apparently? I used to do the wiggle but its kill on sight now sadly.

scav karma will change it hopefully

if there is no report button beside the name in the kill screen i assume it was an AI scav. most scav bosses and minions will go hostile if u get too close. AI scav will go hostile too i think if u hurt another scav. the area and distance away play a factor in that i think

Where as it was more than likely a player scav if you get to close to AI scavs and point your gun at their face they tend to not like that and will sometimes shoot you I have come to find out. I think it has to do with their disposition on how likely they are to react poorly to your gun in their face.

A player scav with no report button? 

I did have a gun pointed at him (because I was looking that way), but was not ADS and was at least 5 meters away.
