Need info about boss/minion behaviour

So I was at the new gas station on customs. A few players had a fight with Reshala and his boys. Reshala won the first fight and I, a SCAV, decided to go and have a look. Since I haven´t killed a SCAV so far the minions ignored me, but suddenly one turned around and shot me. So my question is: how does this work? Do they shoot at you randomly or is there any logic involved that helps me to understand their behaviour?

His, they will let you walk through basically but if you stick around to long and get too close to him they shot. Usually they will run up to you and give you the finger before attacking
