Development Diary: Preparing for the CBT

Recommended Posts

I believe the wait will be worth it i justy bought the PFE (Prepare for Escape) edition and didn't get into the alpha but I am very exited to hear that CBT is coming soon and I am guessing it will be coming out before the end of June and that we will hear an announcement at E3.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped; but I would think that there are too many major fundamental systems completely missing from the game to consider it beta.

I will have to agree, the next update is a glorified Alpha. I'm not mad at all, I'm very happy for updates... but name it what it actually is.

Question: I read that performance is improved. But by how much, and is this affected by resolution?

At the moment the game runs somewhat freaky in 4k, and even tho you lower settings i gain very little. Its like the game has decided that 45-60fps is all im gonna get. In general its around 50-55. Lowering shadow quality does little, drawdistance etc also affect the performance very little. If i dont go crazy and set everything to max it seems that there is very little i can do to make the game run somewhat stable at 60fps in customs.

I dont have any problems under 4k, when i run 1440p i can almost max everything out and the game runs quite alright. I wondering whats bottlenecks the performance in 4k when lowering settings only give 2-5fps more when i go lower than high\medium. Will this be the case with the newer unity version?

Also. Will we get the option to adjust\turn off blur and dof and similar effect in the future?? I never liked these effects. Now siting close to a big screen i really hate it, its way to strong at the moment. It somewhat feels like im like im wearing glasses with wrong strength.

Engine update will rock them socks, it desperately needs it.

Though I wish beta had more than one map planned, but considering the size and how detailed EFT maps are, Shoreline will be good enough, after that, another CQC map should be implemented to get some use out of those SMG's... cause factory is getting so old.

Everytime I hear about Factory : AKA Hatchetland

With the way this is going maybe they will finish the game by 2022

Which is still about 10 years before Star Citizen, so I'll take it.

No that would be bad or no that won't happen? The more hype the better, cant see the problem in giving out betakeys for people to try it for a period.

I feel that is more inline with Open Beta.

there are so many gameplay videos. why do people need to try a game when they actual see how the game is on youtube, twitch, youporn....  either I want to play it or not.

I don't get the opposition here really. To give out some keys to friends and maybe pick someone from a sign up would be good. To your statement "Why do people need to try a game when they see it on youtube"; There is a big difference. Hence the existence of beta tryouts and their positive impact marketingwise.

That however is a good point.

Mate, without getting so far off topic, you sound like you just want a free ride to play the game for a bit. That's not the point of a closed alpha or beta, the point is to garner support (monetarily, community) and get feedback from players. You can add your $.02 without owning the game, but if you have an inkling for a free try-out then it just ain't gonna happen mate. The very basic edition of EFT is 34,99€, roughly $40. That offers guaranteed access to closed beta, which they are preparing for. Watching gameplay and reading about the game should be cause enough to put money into the game if you would like to play. If you are worried that the game won't release and your money will be wasted, they say that it will be given back to backers if that happens (even if you don't trust them, you can always call the bank). Your definition of "more hype" is asking for free stuff. There is no difference between gameplay you see on YouTube and what you will experience in game and I am sure there are plenty of videos to satiate your thirst for knowledge about how it plays and runs.

1. I currently play and own the most expensive pack. So the way i see it, I'm allowed to have an opinion and speak it. I also try to contribute to the forum.

2. What you are essentially saying is that beta keys dont work. Which they do.

3. My definition of more hype is giving the EOD guys (me and my friends) some keys to give out to our friends. Let them try it out.

4. I understand that closed beta is not the place for this, open beta is.

Sincerely, a EOD owning programmer.

You own the EOD pack? Unless I'm glitched, why doesn't it pop up under your name? And if it is on another account, are you aware that making multiple forum accounts is a bannable offense? And what is an "owning programmer"? I just think you're lying mate.

Go to settings mate. You can have it displayed or not...

Yes i do, and my statement is just as good if i didnt.

I don't own multiple accounts, why are you dodging every statement I made and just attack me?

I work as a programmer is what I meant. Not the same as coding a game, but similarities when it comes to solving problems.

I think beta-key giveouts work. The EFT team is actually giving away keys already, in a cosplay contest. Maybe you should join, dress as an idiot. Would not take much effort it seems.

Are there invites to the closed beta? For new players who havent bought?

Yes, there will be Beta Key giveaways with no need to purchase the game in order to try the Closed Beta.

Will we be able to invite other players for only beta-testing ? that would be awsome xD

It'd be cool if everyone that purchased EOD got 1 CBT key to give to a friend to try and bring more people in on testing and have someone you know to run with.

Oh, you’re a programmer? That’s cool, I have an autistic friend who is one too.

Cosplay contest is intriguing, but I already own the game. Still, I might just enter. The idiot idea is good, maybe I’ll put on some glasses, a white button down and slacks and have a sign saying “programmer.”

When all else fails, ad hominem is the way to go.  Well the dev (also a glasses wearing nerd most likely) just answered my question.

First you attack me for not having the game. Avoiding the question, writing a long speech.

Then you accuse me of alternate accounts. Avoiding the question.

Then you throw the weakest comeback ever, dissing programmers (who made the game and this site) still, avoiding any discussion.

It's like discussing with a child.

so has there been any kind of estimate on when the CBT will begin? beyond just "summer 2017" i mean.

debating if i should get the higher tier packs to get in early or if it's not worth it and i wont get in alpha before CBT begins.

I too am also wanting to know if there is any update on CBA release date, I brought the Left Behind Edition due to exchange rates for Australian Dollar to US Dollar, and is this 50/50 chance to be accepted into Closed Alpha real because alot of people who brought the same package never got into Alpha... Im excited for CBA tho and cant wait =^_^=
