В часть пришел запрос на выделение отряда боевого охранения колонны, которая транспортировала боеприпасы и запчасти для военной техники на резервную базу Таркова. Информация о том, что там началась какая-то заваруха доходила очень медленно, да и мало кто из командования в это поверил, но тем не менее на подъезде к базе уже было ясно, что что-то тут не чисто, когда диспетчер базы 4 раза не ответил на вызов для просьбы освободить коридор для транспорта. Но старший колонны счел, что это просто работа местных глушилок на базе. Ну а еще через пару километров, когда уже виднелись ворота базы и белый шар станции РЛС, колонна попала в засаду, головная машина подорвалась на мине, на остальных же сразу был обрушен шквальный огонь из крупнокалиберных пулеметов и АГС. Очнулся наш гвардии сержант Попов лишь на следующие сутки в бетонных обломках за дорогой, куда его "благополучно" отбросило взрывом и которые защитили его от дальнейшего обстрела. Времени горевать не было.
