Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Recommended Posts

KaNesDeath

I'm getting the error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' constantly when trying to join a raid. An from what I understand this is caused by the splash screen showing keybind assignments when loading into a raid.

Can you please remove this check/splash screen?

Restarting the game, checking traders and now reverting settings no longer works. Meaning I cant play the game at all until this issue is addressed.

Reinstall the game.  I used to get it all the time when going back to the main menu after a raid.

He explained exactly the problem, you are referring to a different error the splash screen with the keys won't let us play

Reinstall the game.

This was also a temporary fix. Was allowed to enter three raids before the error again locked me out from joining anymore.

I'm quoting you to help you.

The issue for this is found in your keybinds. When you change the keybinds, you will need to find your screenshot folder. Right before your SS folder you should see local.ini and shared.ini

Open your shared.ini file and proceed as follows:

Find the product "AxisName": null, and then change all of those to look like this:

"AxisName": "",

Only do this where you see the "null," portion. Removing the "null" section from it effectively removes the error.

I have had absolutely no issues since I did this. It is a keybind related issue and I definitely contacted support for the help.

I will take a screenshot of my notepad to show you what you're looking for. Make sure to follow my instructions on this and you should be good to go with zero issues afterwards.

Edit: You need to do this for every circumstance that you see null, instead of "", and then you will have solved the issue. If this does not help, there must be something else causing you this problem.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Forgot to mention to change every instance of null, to "",

This fix by 'Malevolent1' is working consistently for me.  Nice work!

It's also the biggest difference I noticed between the 0.7 and 0.8 'shared'ini' file when I tried to migrate my previous key binds, but ignored it as I was unaware of the connection to this error.

Thank you for the detailed reply. This resolved the issue.

Also I learned which keybind was causing the error from looking at the splash screen. Page Forward on my mouse I have set to Freelook. In the splash screen prompt it was the only keybind that wasn't assigned to a key.

Thanks for the detailed response, Malevolent1 , it turns out that most of my keybinds were on "null" instead of "". Strange.
