Region Lock

Can someone please explain why the region lock was removed?

It has resulted in a huge number of players lagging around like they have rockets in their boots.  They shoot forward 20m, then freeze for a split second, then shoot forward another 20m.

 

Have any of you tried it?  I just changed mine from west coast US(la), to the Sydney oceanic region to try it out. I only did it 1 raid to see if it really is the cause.  I was able to kill 3 players EASILY in the health resort.  They were fights I normally would have lost, as I'm not always the best PvP'er.  But I was able to quickly walk around corners and begin shooting them before they turned to face me. In the second case it was a duo, and I killed the 1st guy and began shooting the 2nd before he got a single shot off.  I didn't take any of their gear as I didn't feel that is fair.  I can't say that it was definitely because of me lagging, but it sure seemed that way.

 

Why would the developers take a step backwards and remove the region lock, especially when it is so easy to abuse judging by my little 'experiment'.   Try it for yourselves, and let me know how it goes.   

 

I was just wondering WHY it was done, as it seems like a huge step backwards.  I have seen a HUGE influx of both hackers, and lagging players with Chinese names.  Anyone else notice this, or is it just a coincidence?

if used correctly, it works phenomenally. if used incorrectly it seems like a horrible implementation.

I'm also discovering this today.. I was confident I shouldn't have to worry about chinese 'players' thanks to the ping lock. So I spent all my sunday getting rekt by asian cheaters and laggers without me even realizing it wasn't simple bad luck. I loath wasting my time, I wasted my entire day making an effort to succeed and hadn't the least amount of fun or satisfaction. I was playing non stop since the patch and before but I am stopping now until the region lock or at least the ping lock is in place again. 

I hope more will follow so to leave the cheaters wankers to have fun with themselves.

I have been planning to buy this game next time it goes on sale specifically because it has the ping lock. If the servers aren't region locked by ping that's a deal breaker and I won't buy it.

It's not a complete 'deal breaker' for me, I just didn't understand the change and was hoping someone could point out a reason for it.  I just can't think of reasons why you wouldn't want to force a region lock.

 

Maybe there are reasons for it, game development and networks are not my strong suit so it is possible there are reasons I just don't understand.

There is a simple fix for that. Set ping Lock to 100-150 or even smaller. In BF4 with much better netcode most servers don't allow higher value than 150. In EFT with current netcode it should be around 100.

Strange, I cannot join any server. I have an EU account, and have access to EU, ME, and RUS.. thats it.. rest are locked (cannot select the server in the server list via launcher)

Er no, then I would not have access to any server. Currently EU is the closest and fastest at around 190/200ms..

I have a list of hackers that I have ran into so what I do is to check to see any of those Aholes are in the lobby before I launch a game. If they are, I play another game. Simple. We should make and share such lists. So in the end, hackers play with hackers if everyone's in on this.

Incredible that a game with some such huge lag/desynk issue could remove regions locks. Dumbest decision ever, what's the hell BSG???

Ya im not going to buy this because of this change rip tarkov. The ping locking of servers was what counterbalanced doubts about early access/ small developer but if they are going to let people from outside north america into NA servers I don't trust them.

There is an issue with this also, I only just stumbled onto this thread, but knowing that a higher Ping can do the [Posts Above God Mode] is a bad networking bug that needs to be fixed. 

 

I live in New Zealand and have friends in the USA so if a region lock was implemented it would also hurt legit players like myself. 

 

I want this stuff to be fixed also, however an anti-cheat and better network code is the answer not region locking.

Because the game is in bata, and the devs wanted to see what type of issues would result if they unlocked the regions.

Suck as lagg, de-sync. We are playing a testing game, they are testing it.
