Just wondering what the crack is with shot guns. Ive just shot someone 6 times point blank in the face while he was reloading and didn't kill him, obviously I died cos he had an m4 but how did that not kill him? every single shot landed and it said I did 146 dmg. Are shotguns bugged or are they honestly not strong enough to shoot through helmets.

Speaking for realism not game bugs or the like. Shotguns in the real world have a very difficult time with armor. Example, lets say you have a 2"3/4" 12gauge shell of 00buck or #4 Buck. The 00 buck is practically 9mm balls. Sounds pretty lethal right? Well it is, against soft resistance. The problem shotgun loads have against armor not just plate armor such as sappi or Kevlar but even your soft armors just as weave and webbing type of flaks is that its a very low velocity traveling load with very little room for expansion.

Rifle loads such as a 5.56 or 308. are super sonic loads traveling anywhere between 2900fps all the way up to 4000fps depending on what load you are running. The bullet itself has various options as well to further increase going for more expansion vs penetration or vice versa. Even the fastest shotgun loads on the market which are gonna be your wing shooting loads and coyote hunter loads(me) are only achieving little more than 1200-1400fps with little expansion if any.

Rifle loads and bullet tips can be highly tuned to bust and crack armor plates up very easily, however at the cost of expansion. There inst 1 load that can do it all but there is loads that are good and decent and both but you will never be able to have excellent expansion and lethality while maintaining a hard tip that won't mold.

It sucks because hey lets be real im a sucker for shotguns but truth is that is why in the real application you won't see shotguns ever be used as a primary source of engaging targets when known armor or the possibility of armor is present, even in the most ideal applications of CQB. It is simply much safer and easier to bust the armor with something that is tuned and catered and has the velocity to destroy and crack plate armor while still having large capacities of ammunition at the same time to make up for the lack of expansion.

With shotguns you should only aim for the head on the very first shot. This will 'blur' their screen and make it hard for them to see you and shoot back.  After that first head shot, all other shots should be aimed at their LEGS. There is no leg armor in this game so that will always be your best bet with the shotgun.

At least that's how I've learned to do it from my in-game experiences.

Was him armored? Even UNTAR armor is going to block every single of your shotgun pallets. 6 buckshots is nothing to actually any form of armor, even PACA. Fort can take over 50 of those! Basically, if you only have a shotgun, stay away from PMCs.

Guessing he's probably armored , shotguns won't have any affects on armored target , the only thing you'll be doing is giving the target a really bad bruise
