That could be a multitude of things, 

1- he is a cheater with god mode and you got face hatboxes or he also had instakill rounds

2- desync, and the bullets didn't register

3- netcode

4- you were using hollow point rounds and his armor ate the bullets like Rook

Any chance did you recently reload your gun ? If so your mag could of been bugged and showed you could shoot but on the server side it was empty basicly shooting blanks ..its happened a few times to me , Other than that i'd love to call desync but I just dont know anymore..

One thing I'm very bad for is shooting people center mass. It's just the way I've play fps forever.........that's bad here, apparently. Maybe that was part of it also.
