Gun sound glitch?

I've died multiple times on customs where I just took damage and didn't hear the shots. All times it has been from within 100 yards. Has anyone else had this issue? I don't want to jump to calling cheats but this is only in the last couple days i've been coming up against players that don't make noise. Its not that the first shot kills me so I cant hear it, i'll just be walking along and all the sudden my pmc groans and half my thorax health is gone, then he groans again and I die.
